2022 Colour of the Year

The new year is here which means companies like Pantone, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have all released their colour of the year.

An annual trend founded by Pantone, a colour company, unveiled their first Colour of the Year (COTY) in 2000. Over the last two decades, the company’s group of colour experts are selected from different industries and come their decision after analyzing various design trends from the last year and what they believe will carry over into the following year. Announced by Pantone each December, the winning colour influences both colour and design trends across the globe.

Pantone’s COTY has inspired other companies such as paint suppliers, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore, to release their own colour of the year that reflect the themes of the year.

So, what were their 2022 predictions? Lets find out!

Sherwin Williams / Evergreen Fog

Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog was selected to be the 2022 COTY. The mid-tone gray-green boasts a warm, smooth earth tone that is quickly becoming a staple in any home.  The hue is nature0inspired and brings a sense of comfort and calmness to spaces like an entryway, bed or bathrooms.

Sue Wadden, Director of Colour Marketing for Sherwin Williams explain in a press release that, “Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade. It inspires us to begin again and is a great choice for modern interiors and exteriors.” Wadden suggests complementing the colour with warm, earthy neutrals, such as beige, camel, or coffee brown. Then bring in additional layers of texture with natural materials including wood, leather, jute, and rattan.

Pantone / Very Peri

Designed to pique curiosity and creativity, the warm, joyful hue is meant to symbolize our transition out of the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
